I have gotten down in the dumps around November every year. This year it got bad enough that I finally decided to buy a light box. What can I say, it works! I use it in the morning for 30 minutes while I check emails. If I have time I use it in the evening when I get home from work for another 30 minutes. The only cons I can think of is that the ionizer thing smells bad. Sort of a strong plastic smell. I have been using the light box for around a month. I feel very good. I am not down in the dumps at all. I highly recommend this if you have seasonal effective disorder like I do. I would have bought this years ago had I known it would actually work.

I researched a lot of these units and couldn't justify the expense, or how big and ugly they were. This unit is a great value, nice size, good appearance, quiet, has an automatic timer in 15 min increments then turns itself off. I almost didn't buy it because of the ion/ozone feature, but it has a separate on/off button so I just don't use it...though it does come in handy cleaning the air in my kitchen of cooking odors. Anyway, I love it. Winter in Wisconsin seems to last forever, and this winter I have my own little piece of sunshine!

This product is amazing. Turn it on, and fill the entire room with a soft glow that will change your mood for the better instantly. It might be a bit intense when you first turn it on, but you'll get used to it very quickly. The lamp was easy to put together, and has two different settings of lighting intensity. The light emitted is very easy on the eyes, and is excellent for reading, computing, or any everyday task. The unit also uses very little power and has a small footprint.

Everybody should get one of these, especially if you have Seasonal Anxiety Disorder. It works, bottom line.

I agree with the other reviewers that the lamp is made very cheaply and durability is questionable, but it does have a 3yr. warranty. I was fortunate to buy one when there was a promotion, so basically BOGOF and for that reason kept it at a 5 star rating. If I'd paid a piece, then I would rate it a 3. As for the light, I was amazed at how bright and white it was at the high setting, which I like for my office while working on the computer. I placed the other one on my nightstand and use the lower setting. It's perfect for reading and really seems to give my BR a calming ambience. I haven't used them long enough to determine if it will help w/ the winter blues, but think it might. Also one of its best features is flicker-free illumination without generating EMFs. For those of you that use feng shui, this is very important.

I have mild Seasonal Affective Disorder, which didn't rear its head until I left sunny south Florida, where I grew up, and moved midway up the Atlantic Coast after graduating from college. Although our winters where I live now are *nothing* like the harsh, gray winters in the northern US and Canada, I do tend to feel a mild case of the blues each November-March. Adding to this problem are the following:

1) My internal clock is skewed: I'd prefer to go to bed at 3 am and wake up at 11. I've never been a "morning person."

2) I work in a dreary, cubicle-filled, fluorescent-lit office for 8-9 hours a day, nowhere near a window.

This past November, I did several days' worth of research into SAD and related conditions (my internal clock is connected to SAD!) and eventually decided I was a reasonable candidate for light therapy. I had been eyeing this Zadro Sunlight unit, and when it went on sale before the holidays, I bought it. (Might as well start small, right? What if it ended up not working? I didn't want to waste hundreds of dollars on a huge designer SAD light. The Zadro unit fit the bill, literally.)

I can honestly say that it has worked, but it took about 4 weeks of daily use for me to notice a big change. The human brain interprets blue LED light as sunlight, and that's why this unit is effective. I find the strongest light intensity (100%) to be too great, so I set it to 50% and leave it on for 60 minutes in the morning at my desk. It has noticeably helped me feel happier and more alert. Surprisingly (I was doubtful I would see any effect), it has helped regulate my internal clock: I wake up more easily in the morning, get hungry at normal times (noon instead of 2:00 pm), and start to feel tired around 10:30-11:00 pm. It's a huge difference.

Unit specifications, according to the user's manual:

- 10,000 LUX

- 35 individual blue LED lights with variable intensity (10% - 100%)

- No UV rays

- Clock: The numbers you see on the small blue panel in the picture (03:14) are the clock. I think it can only show 24-hour time, which I personally prefer; but this may be annoying to some people. The directions don't tell you how to change it to a 12-hour clock.

- Timer: You can set the light to turn off after 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes.

- Programs: Three separate program options (A, B, C) allow you to pre-set the desired intensity and duration of light.

The unit functions via power adapter, is very lightweight -- some would say flimsy -- and measures about 5" x 2.5". It comes with a two-compartment black microfiber carrying case and a small circular battery for the clock. The lights will only turn on if you plug in the power cord. The directions are pretty worthless, and the buttons aren't terribly intuitive; but the unit is not difficult to figure out. I haven't have any problems programming or turning on my unit.

Make sure you do some research beforehand, as the recommended "dosages" (duration/intensity) of light are different for each person, although it seems to be universally beneficial to use the light first thing in the morning as you go through your normal routine (breakfast, computer, workout, etc.). While in use, you should place the unit at arm's length, angled slightly away from you, just a few degrees outside your direct line of vision; simply glancing at it, very briefly, 1-2 times during each session should be sufficient.

A word of caution, though: while you're programming your Zadro or messing with the buttons, angle it to the side so it doesn't shock your eyes if/when it suddenly turns on (ouch!). Some reviewers have bemoaned the light's intensity, and I only have one response to that: the directions clearly state NOT to stare DIRECTLY at the light! If it hurts your eyes to glance at the unit, angle it farther away and/or decrease the light intensity. (For what it's worth, I actually find it quite pleasant to glance at the turquoise-indigo colored lights. It's a very soothing color that reminds me of the Caribbean.)

I can absolutely recommend the Zadro Sunlight unit to those who would benefit from light therapy, whether for SAD or internal clock resetting. Good luck!

** Update, Feb. 21, 2010: I am still using the Zadro Sunlight unit each morning, and the kind of "pick me up" effect it has is amazing, especially in the winter. I did notice that a lot of other reviewers are having terrible problems with the unit's flimsiness. Although I can't speak for anyone else's experience, I haven't had any problems with mine -- but that may be because it lives in one spot on my desk and doesn't get moved around at all, ever. If you're looking for a very sturdy and/or battery-operated unit, you may want to opt for another brand/model. However, I still love my Zadro and use it every day.

I have this light on my desk at work and use it at full strength for 30 minutes in the morning, and sometimes at 10% or 20% strength for a bit later in the day. I live up north where there's no daylight in the middle of winter. This light has totally changed my life. But I think it would have even if we had more sun, and I'm going to continue using it throughout the year.

I was so tired and low on energy before I got this, increasing my coffee intake little by little, and it wasn't helping. This light resets your body clock. I can feel it happening immediately. Suddenly I'm awake and completely "on it" and feeling clear and attentive at 8AM. That is NOT typical for me. And I get tired at the appropriate time at night. I have real, normal energy, not like nervous caffeine energy. I've been getting a ton of work done, on the job and at home since I got this about 3 weeks ago.

I can't recommend this product highly enough. Its small, and portable. Its also the cheapest light on here, and I really don't know what the other lights can do that would be better. This thing is very bright, and its that blue spectrum light that causes the brain reactions that you want to achieve. You can program it for a time and intensity, or just manually set it. The casing is a little flimsy--the stand broke after just a couple weeks for no reason, but I put a piece of tape on it and its fine.

No need for a long review here. This is a great book on seasonal affective disorder, also known as SAD. It's written in the typical "For Dummies" format: uses layman's terms, icons througout the book to alert you to key points, organized in an easy-to-follow manner (i.e. paragraphs/ideas broken up in the chapters for easier "digestion" of the info).

Also typical of the "Dummies" books is the completeness. You'll learn the symptoms of SAD, if you have it, and what you can do about it. Some treatments covered in the book include:

-light therapy

-cognitive therapy

-exercise

-how to get better sleep

-changing your diet

-medications

As you can see, the book covers a lot of ground and most will no doubt learn a lot- I know I did. For instance, I found out that, according to the book page 222, that exercise and light therapy work EQUALLY well in treating SAD (see Exercise Beats Depression for a more detailed program if that's your thing). Anyway, I say get it if you you want a good, general knowledge of SAD, and to find out what all your options are. Its a great resource!

Have been using it for last 4-5 months. Joined school which means lot of reading and laptop work, so I purchased albeit the price tag was high. So, far I found it decent. Bluish light, two brightness setting, reasonably stable on the table. This light is good for reading and laptop. But if you want light spread across a larger table, this is not the right one.

Update after 2 years of use: the plastic cover for the lamp got loose and keeps falling - a nuisance. Otherwise, no complaints.

After reading the reviews and comparisons on the manufacturers web site, I thought I had found the perfect lamp to spend my many tedious hours examining fingerprints with.

Needless to say, I was quite disappointed to find that this lamp lacked the brightness that I had thought it would have. Even though this lamp has a two-way switch that enables one to change between a high & low lamp output... I found that I had to have the lamp closer to my work than I wanted in order to achieve the brightness that I required.

I also found the base to be somewhat "tippy" when the light portion of the lamp was not adjusted parallel the base.

In fairness to the manufacturer, this lamp did cast an even light that was comfortable to to read under for extended periods of time.

Would I buy this lamp again... probably not, especially at the retail prices they are selling for.

Quickly do the outsides of your legs. Doing this quickly is the key to no blotches so only go over each area once. It will feel like you aren't really putting hardly anything on.. you don't need to! If you want a darker tan, you can repeat later.

8. Next, do your shoulders then arch your back to reach it. Again, holding can as far from your body as possible.

9. Lift your arms one at a time to do each of your sides.

10. Lift your chin and starting at your neck, go quickly back and forth over the front of your body.

11. You do NOT need to spray the tops of your feet. TRUST me on this! Enough product is landing there on its own.

12. VERY quickly and holding the can almost completely arms length away, give your face a spray while holding your breath.

13. Step out of the shower and onto the towel. If you have any spots you sprayed too much product on, rub it in now.

14. Lift the edge of the towel up and rub all the lotion off your feet and toes, then your knees, and then your elbows.

I used this product without reading the label first. It contains two types of nut oils! If you are allergic to nuts beware! I sprayed this all over my body and a few hours later I became very ill with an extremely inflamed throat, vomiting and weakness with all the other symptoms associated with a nut allergy. I ended up in E.R. I was very ill for two weeks and weak for a month. I also had some cardiac arrythmias which entailed my having to have a lot of follow-up testing. I do have to say that I had a great tan, so if you don't have a nut allergy, go ahead. I still had three unopened containers which I sent back to the company. They did not give me a refund, instead they emailed me something about a credit.

I am a die hard tanner. Years ago due to an illness, I could no longer tan in a tanning bed or outside. Therefore, I tried spray tanning. It does not work. I use selftan all the time and this time I was attracted by the wand. It`s really useful, I can finally apply selftan to my back without help or doing gymnastics. Here`s what I like:

- the wand is awesome and easy to use,

- the spray is great; very light and clear,

- tan came out even and really natural (for more dramatic results I can reapply the next day), last long and fades gradually,

- the fragrance is not overpowering, although next day in the morning I recognized this specific selftan smell (not strong, it`s shower time anyway).

One can last about 4 full body applications.

When I compare the whole experience to mystic tan SheerTan wins-it doesn`t smell, leaves clothes clean, not expensive, I don`t have to drive to tan salon.

For airplane travelling, when I take carry on only I love Tan Towel Toweletts, another winner! Every summer since I can remember, I've been self-conscious about my white legs - there was even taunting when I was in grade school, so my quest for the perfect self-tanning product to cover my porcelain pins began young. Over the years, I've used every type of sunless tanning product starting with that orangy Avon lotion in the early 1980s; I've utilized tanning booths and gave up after thirteen sessions and only a burn to show for it; and I've booth spray tanned and airbrush spray tanned with "professionals", but how often do you want to shell out - for four days of being tan? It gets really spendy, really fast.

And then I stumbled on SheerTan. I think the Gods of Sunless Tanning were smiling on me that day. SheerTan satisfied every qualification that I was looking for in a sunless tanner: it's easy to apply, it lasts for three days before you need to shave your legs/exfoliate and reapply, and it gives me realistic colour. At first I did as the directions said and did not rub it in - BIG MISTAKE! However, the color was nice and it lasted through my workouts and showering after about 4 hrs of using it. So, I tried again, instead, I blended it. This seemed to work. I've mastered a routine of how to get the best results. I spray my arms first, rub it in, wash my hands. Then I do my chest and torso area, rub it in, wash my hands. I continue this doing my legs from the knees down and then from the knees up. I did find that I was coughing after I did this, so I bought those face masks that doctors use and it seems to help. By the way, the smell is quite pleasant. From someone who has tried several alternatives, I'd definitely recommend this product (but make sure to rub in!).

I have used this product several times this summer and have not had one bad experience. I have an extremely fair skin tone and it still covers well with nice "real" looking color. I do believe it probably lasts longer on someone who has an olive skin tone or something similar.

Exfoliating just before application will help remove and dry flakey skin, and that is important.

The best advice I can give regarding this product is you need to use it just as the manufacturer recommends. If you spray too close to your skin then you would (as one reviewer stated) end up with uneven color, missed spots and even drips. Even though it is colorless when being applied, if you watch carefully you can see if you have gotten too close and if too much tanner has been applied in a specific area. I use a small make-up sponge and dab those spots lightly to prevent dripping and uneven color. If you find you have missed an area it is easily touched up after color is fully developed, (on average 8-10 hours).

This was new to me as well and the best advice I can give anyone is practice makes perfect! Start out applying lightly, and once you have a feel for how to effectivley apply it, you will end up with nice color that doesn't wash off with one or two showers.

I have been using this spray for the past year and a half. I adore it. Its a rich dark brown and is easy to use. I get my hair dryer out and plugged in. I place a colored hand towel on the floor of my shower go in, close the door and do a light spray. I then come out and blow dry...1-3 thin applications works best. I like to spray my face after I've applying my foundation, my pores clog easily and applying foundation first helps a lot. It the many many can of this that I have used I have only had one can stop spraying before it was empty. I've never had weird dots like the other reviewer described except when I get right to the end of the can. And even then I lightly rub it in and then wash my hands. This product boasts having a continuous spray that can be used at any angle on the body. No such luck for me. I could not get it to continuously spray from a straight angle, let alone turning it upside down to get the back side. I looked like I had dark brown polka-dots on my skin. I would get one burst of spray and then the nozzle fizzled out and I would have to start over. There was no way that was going to be an even tan the way it looked when I was done spraying. And I was worried what it would look like at work the next day, so I immediately showered it off....washed down the drain!

Since moving to a sunny clime, I'd only found 1 salon near me that carried this brand and they seemed to know nothing about this particular product, so I had been using the "For Faces" version (which isn't water-resistant) because they told me that was my only choice. I really LOVE the effect of this lotion. I'm only tanning 1x per week and I am just as dark as when I was going 3x per week (using Bohemia tanning lotion then). The only problem is the smell. It actually smells like tanning lotion. You know..."coconutty." I prefer the smell of Spellbound and, since it's the same type of lotion, it's probably just as effective.

I have no issue with the product but beware of the astonomical shipping costs! I didn't pay close eongh atteniton to the shipping costs until it was too late. To ship a half pound envelope from South Carolina to Wisconsin standard mail I was charged .50. The goggles themselves cost .50. I thought it was a mistake and when I addressed it with this company I initially got an automatic response telling me that customer service was not going to be available for an indefinite amount of time due to a medical emergency. A few days later I did receive a reply telling me that the shipping costs were accurate. If you buy something from this company, pay close attenition to the shipping costs!

You get a random color hard container and one pair of hard, plastic cups to put over your eyes. These are definitely not meant for a booth, and if you move in the bed, they will fall off. I use a booth, but ordered this product for the container. I tan at the gym and usually go in with my car keys and water, nothing else. I tan after working out and hate carrying around eye wear (not to mention the lines you get from using goggles), and the "winkies" seem like a huge rip off at a pair. I bought a pair of "winkies" and put them in the hard case to elongate their life since they do seem to work the best to avoid unsightly tan lines. The case is small, fits nicely on a keychain next to my gym tag. Wish they made rubber cups instead of the hard plastic so they suctioned onto your eye lids, then this product would be perfect.

California Tan Sunsets Eyewear 1-pr. Reviews

I recently bought a pair of "Sunsets" after leaving my trusty "Peepers" in my car while it was getting fixed. Unlike traditional tanning goggles, Sunsets are only for the lay down beds and only if you lay on your back. I thought they sounded like a great idea because the elastic string on my peepers annoyed me and I didn't really want a tan line across the bridge of my nose. Although the sunsets did protect my eyes 100% from uv rays and looked kind of cool, I found they did nothing to prevent the dreaded "racoon eye" except for not having a band in between them. I don't have particularly long eyelashes, but I find even when my eyes are closed my eyelashes still blink a little and the Sunsets kept falling off and I would have to get up out of the bed and search for them. Also, if I were to put the towel over my face for any part of my tanning session it would cause them to fall off. I think they will be great for tanning outside in my backyard in the summer when it doesn't matter so much if they fall off, but the bottom line is they just don't cut it for any kind of long tanning session.

Great in concept, horrible in execution, try as I might I have not been able to get these to work and stay in place.

I bought these to use outside in the sun (not in a tanning booth). I thought that they would be a good compromise to help save my eyes from some of the UV rays as I was sunning. Thus far, I have been unable to get these to stay on my face for more than a few seconds. I don't know if there is any trick to them or not .... but for me, they do not work. I wanted them to work because I liked the concept. But they do not.

Not recommended.

Not only did these arrive quickly, they are great goggles that are comfortable and don't leave tan lines around your eyes. NOTE: The booth will be a bit brighter with these goggles than it would be with the opaque tanning goggles (which seemed obvious to me, but apparently it isn't to everyone, as evinced by one of the reviews herein). According to the people at the tanning salon, these goggles still offer sufficient UV protection.
